The face‑to‑face Interpreter is responsible for traveling to client sites by appointment and renders the meaning of conversations in consecutive mode between the target language and English speakers. The interpreter processes information quickly and concisely, recognizes sensitive cultural differences, and remains professional and courteous at all times. The interpreter uses appropriate terminology and understands common industry procedures and practices. Interpreting assignments may be technical or non‑technical in healthcare, government services, and education. Assignments will take place at client locations throughout Kent.

Major Responsibilities

  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol.
  • Provide clear and accurate renditions with no additions or omissions.
  • Employ good customer service and clear enunciation, pronunciation, a pleasant and professional voice, and polite forms of expression.
  • Follow the client’s instructions, manage the flow of communication, and avoid taking over the communication, as well as avoid interaction with the Limited English proficiency speaker without client’s permission.
  • Understand protocol and terminology in the healthcare industry.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the assignment at all times.
  • Have access to the Internet or work‑related electronic communication.
  • Provide clarification and cultural brokering using excellent judgment and skill.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, Philology, Linguistics, or related fields.
  • Ph.D. or Doctoral degree in Languages, Philology, Linguistics, or related fields.
  • NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters).
  • DPSI (Diploma of Public Service Interpreting).
  • DPI (Diploma Police Interpreting).

Work Experience

  • Written translation and/or interpretation.
  • Localization, bilingual publishing, media organizations, schools, or other bilingual settings.
  • Living and/or studying in a bilingual environment.
  • One year of work experience in industries for which LanguageLine Solutions provides interpretation (preferred).

Essential Requirements

  • Resident of the UK for 3+ years (NPPV3 vetting requirements).
