Main Job Purpose
To own, lead and develop the Social Value (SV) programme within LanguageLine UK, in line with business objectives and national legislative requirements. This role requires regular travel across the UK, and the successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Heading up the SV Committee
- Co‑ordinating and leading the internal monthly SV panel meetings.
- Running community engagement sessions and other initiatives to understand limited English speaker perspectives on language support across various regions.
- Building relationships with charities and other groups involved in gaining insight from limited English‑speaking groups.
- Owning and maintaining the LanguageLine SV policy
- Monitoring national SV legislation and best practice via relevant channels.
- Utilizing information captured from external sources to inform and maintain LanguageLine SV policy and approach.
- Monitoring competitor SV activity in the media and highlight/report to SV panel.
- Developing and coordinating the delivery of Language Line’s SV activities
- Assisting Account Managers in developing SV plans for individual contracts, e.g., suggesting possible ideas, identifying new opportunities.
- Tracking and recording all SV activity and impacts in order to provide internal and external facing reports.
- Coordinating internal funding approval for new SV initiatives from senior team and keeping records of all expenditure related to SV.
- Identifying volunteering and engagement opportunities in key areas across the country, maintaining relationships with volunteer partners, and publicising volunteering opportunities to LLS staff and coordinating attendance of volunteers at events.
- Monitoring all volunteering take‑up and use of staff Give Back days.
- Coordinating and supporting customer engagement events.
- Driving the achievement of Language Line’s SV commitments within customer contracts
- Actively contributing ideas and delivery examples to the Bid team for tenders/RFPs and assisting with shaping SV delivery plans and commitments for tender submissions.
- Attending SV conferences, seminars, discussions and providing feedback updates, new and best practice to relevant parties.
- Working with the Marketing Manager to identify opportunities for publicity, case studies, and Give Back webpage.
- Working with LanguageLine Account Managers and Customer representatives to identify opportunities and approaches for gaining insight from limited English‑speaking communities.
Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum of 3 years in a Social Value, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fundraising and/or Community Engagement role.
- A minimum of three higher level grade qualifications or above.
- Working knowledge of the Social Value Act and how it is applied to public sector contracts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven prioritisation and time‑management skills.
- Independent worker, with experience of managing your own workload.
- Efficient in Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to: support and inform all stakeholders, including Directors across the business; understand and define customer requirements in order to develop and present valuable and effective proposals; articulate the value of initiatives from a customer relationship, financial and marketing standpoint; demonstrate empathy with groups from different backgrounds and communities; multitask and be comfortable in a busy role; maintain momentum for own work and across stakeholder group building strong and credible professional working relationships both internally, with customers and other parties’ network with a range of stakeholders including directors and senior managers, sales team, operations, accounts and other departments.
Desirable
- Experience in the translation and/or interpreting industry and/or experience of working with the public sector.
