Familiarise Yourself with the Role

Read up on what interpreting involves, especially in settings like the NHS or local authorities. Understanding the context of where you’ll be working can help you answer questions more effectively and demonstrate your commitment to the role.

Practice Active Listening

During the interview, showcase your active listening skills. This is crucial for interpreters! You might even want to practice summarising what the interviewer says to show you can listen and comprehend quickly, just like you would in a real interpreting scenario.

Prepare Questions to Ask

Have a few thoughtful questions ready about the company and the role. This shows your interest and helps you gauge if the position is right for you. Ask about the types of assignments you might handle or how they support their interpreters in challenging situations.
