Job Description
As a Principal Medical Writer you will guide a team of talented writers to develop well crafted, scientifically sound and strategic deliverables for our clients. You will provide counsel to client service partners and clients alike, and encourage the team to always Think Further about new possibilities. You will play a strong role in the continued development of the writing team and in generating new business.
Key responsibilities:
- Champions best practice among the medical writing team and works closely with the Editorial Team Lead/Head of Editorial to continuously evolve and improve our service offering.
- Challenges the status quo to ensure continuous improvement delivery.
- Mentors and manages members of the writing team, and supports with resource management, training and recruitment.
- Maintains a high profile within the agency for content knowledge and expertise, and leads the content for designated accounts.
- Provides scientific and strategic counsel to clients and internal teams regarding complex narratives/portfolio messaging development.
- Establishes strong relationships with external scientific experts and client teams; viewed as a valued partner.
- Proactively makes recommendations for enhancing programme development and drives organic growth
- Leads scientific aspects of pitch development with an emphasis on complex narratives and portfolio recommendations
Qualifications
- Good at understanding and communicating complex science (you should hold a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences (2:1 or above) and ideally a master’s degree or PhD)
- Able to develop strong relationships – based on exceptional verbal, as well as written, communication abilities – and comfortable providing advice and guidance to others
- Extensive medical writing experience within a medical communications agency or an in-house pharma med comms team, demonstrating:
- Overarching scientific and content leadership for multiple accounts
- Responsibility for maintaining high editorial and scientific standards across a team
- Development of junior & mid-level writing talent through direct line management and training
- An ability to motivate & inspire a writing team, and elevate standards of content curation
- Strong client and expert relationships
