My client, who provides software services and managed services, is expanding and has created a new role within their team for a System Administrator / DevOps engineer with Redhat and MySQL Admin skills. The successful candidate will work with other Microsoft technologies and gain some exposure to SQL Server.

The system administrator is responsible for the support and management of the Linux hosted infrastructure supporting business applications, servers, and networking; providing technical and infrastructure advice. They will also be involved in consultancy for the software solutions provided by the business, writing and producing installation, administration, troubleshooting documentation of issues.

The Systems Administrator will work with the service desk, customers, solutions consultants, and development teams to resolve ongoing technical issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and management of the Linux hosted infrastructure (Redhat 6) supporting business applications, servers, and networking.
  • Utilise technical knowledge of LVM, BASH, Jenkins, Postfix, Nagios, and performance monitoring while working with Apache products including SVN.
  • Provide technical and infrastructure advice and consultancy for the software solutions provided by the business.
  • Assist the Technical Team in delivering a more streamlined deployment of products and building a strong technical resource for the company.
  • Work with the service desk, customers, solutions consultants, and development teams to resolve ongoing technical issues.
Essential Technical Skills:
  • Linux server administration ideally Redhat 6 (consider other versions).
  • Some experience of performance tuning, replication management, installation, and monitoring.
  • Previous experience of providing high-level systems support in a Unix environment; collaborating with development teams on project design and build, and systems administration.
  • Ideally some knowledge of Virtualisation technology (Hyper V or VMWare).
  • Understand the concepts and problems of enterprise-level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms, and remote administration.
About the Ideal Candidate:

Successful candidates must have a strong technical background, experience in Linux Administration, and some experience of MySQL admin duties, along with good communication skills and problem-solving ability. Additionally, you will have some understanding of Virtualisation and networking and be willing to gain some exposure to SQL Server, Mobile Device Platforms, LAN/WAN technologies, while having a strong interest in new and emerging technology. You will need to be able to pick up new skills and concepts quickly and balance a variety of projects.

Very competitive basic salary on offer, pension, and 25 days holiday. The role will be based out of their Sutton Coldfield HQ, and some remote working may also be available after getting up to speed with their environment. There may be some infrequent travel to another office for meetings and training.
