We have an opportunity for a highly organised and detail-oriented Financial Crime Analyst to join our London office on an Apprenticeship basis. Working within the Financial Crime Team, you will ensure that Langham Hall meets its legal and regulatory obligations to fully identify and understand its clients and their investors. You will be part of the team that defends Langham Hall’s reputation and protects it from being associated with any illicit activity.
Your role will involve assisting with gathering data and documentation as part of our Customer Due Diligence (CDD) process, which will also include conducting your own research on clients and investors. This will take place before a client enters a relationship with Langham Hall, ensuring that the entity is reputable and has no “red flags”. You will do this using information both provided by the client itself, as well as information that you can locate in the public domain. You will be required to assess all the information and documentation provided to ensure it meets all of the required criteria from both a Langham Hall and regulatory perspective.
The successful candidate does not need to have any experience in carrying out Anti-Money Laundering (AML) CDD on-boarding checks but should have a genuine interest in the subject and a willingness to learn. Initially, the Financial Crime Analyst will work with a Financial Crime Senior Associate as part of a team responsible for carrying out AML / CDD on-boarding for the Depositary, Real Estate Fund and Private Equity Fund administration business units of Langham Hall. This role is on a fixed term contract for 1 year.
Key Responsibilities
- Focused on carrying out CDD review and gap analysis with an ability to develop an understanding of complex ownership and control strategies.
- Accurately maintaining logs/databases necessary to provide management information.
- Assisting in carrying out AML / CDD checks on new and existing customers of Langham Hall, including:
- Obtaining documentary evidence of identity in line with Langham Hall’s AML / CDD policy and Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) guidance to ensure that Langham Hall is in line with regulatory requirements.
- Assisting in carrying out sanctions / Politically Exposed Person (PEP) screening on new and existing customers of Langham Hall.
- Assisting in carrying out initial risk assessments in line with Langham Hall’s financial crime risk management framework.
- Assisting in carrying out Enhanced Due Diligence Checks including conducting detailed research into the background of complicated structures and the individuals sitting behind them.
- Ensuring that AML CDD files are adequately maintained for existing and new customers.
- In addition to the duties listed above, the individual may be requested to perform other ad-hoc duties or projects as requested and as experience is gained, this will include work to be undertaken as part of our Compliance Service business.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Be a critical thinker with problem-solving abilities and very good attention to detail.
- Have good interpersonal, organisational and written/oral communication skills.
- Have a good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Access and the ability and keenness to use online screening tools.
- Have an ability to accurately present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients on the information that has been presented.
- Education to graduate level.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and be committed to undertaking study of relevant courses to the AML / CDD field.
Minimum Education / Qualifications
Minimum entry requirements for this role is a graduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Law, Accounting, Economics etc.
