Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Intern—Path to Residency in Langford

Langford Vets are pleased to invite applications for an internship in veterinary diagnostic imaging. The successful candidate will join our close-knit department of four European Diplomates, three small animal track residents and three radiographers based at the Langford Vets Small Animal Hospital, working within the largest team of specialists and specialists‑in‑training in the Southwest of England.

The position is a fixed‑term one‑year post beginning in late January/early February 2027. You will form a vital part of the department’s clinical service in both acquisition and interpretation of imaging studies, with training given in all relevant modalities under full supervision by the senior staff. The role will involve some out of hours responsibilities. Engagement with clinical research is expected and encouraged. The role is ideal for individuals wishing to pursue further development in diagnostic imaging, and there may be the potential to progress into a residency position upon successful completion.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK, have at least two years post‑graduate experience, and ideally have undertaken both general practice work and a recognised small animal rotating internship.

Job Purpose

• To support the function of the Small Animal Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Department by assisting with the acquisition and interpretation of imaging studies and departmental administrative duties.
• To provide excellent care for patients.
• To communicate and liaise effectively with staff working within other services to ensure cases are managed appropriately and efficiently.
• To assist with clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate students as and when required.

Principal Accountabilities

• To acquire and interpret diagnostic studies for Small Animal Hospital patients, under the supervision of the imaging department radiologists and radiographers.
• To assist with administrative duties relevant to the imaging department
• To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
• To perform studies and procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
• To record all case records accurately and ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures.
• To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies.
• To contribute to the teaching, supervision and assessment of students on their practical rotation when applicable.
• To take part in provision of out of hours imaging support, up to a maximum of one in four weekends and weekday nights, under the supervision of senior radiologists.
• To contribute to journal club, book club, department rounds and other scholarly activities on a shared rota.
• To actively participate in clinical research within the department.
• To undertake any reasonable requests made by a line manager, the service clinical leads or hospital management.
• To proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees, and students.
