Job Description

Here at STEF Langdons Ltd, we have an amazing opportunity for a Learning and Development Manager to join our team.  

As the Learning and Development Manager, you will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of training and development initiatives across our UK operations.  Your mission is to build the capabilities of our people, support a culture of continuous learning, and ensure our workforce is equipped to meet both operational and strategic business needs.

You will be working on a full time, permanent basis, working Monday - Friday 08:30-16:30 at our Head Office in Bridgwater.

Whether it’s fresh consignments or frozen goods we have it covered! Langdons can deliver to almost any location in the UK or Ireland within 24 hours. We have 9 depots and over 375 vehicles carrying chilled and frozen food all over the country. We’re the only company providing a 24-hour service of this kind, and we’re very good at it.

What you’ll be doing as our Learning and Development Manager?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a UK-wide Learning and Development strategy aligned with business goals
  • Conduct training needs analysis across departments (transport, warehousing, admin etc.) to identify skills gaps
  • Ensure all company-wide training and development activity is evaluated and reported on effectively.

Training Program Development:

  • Design and deliver effective learning programs (induction, compliance, technical skills, leadership development. etc.
  • Implement learning pathways for drivers, warehouse staff, planners, and team leaders
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Compliance and Health and Safety Managers to ensure staff performance standards and behavious are addressed and maintained, and that associated policies and procedures are developed accordingly.

Compliance and Safety Training:

  • Ensure all mandatory and regulatory training (e.g., food safety, health and safety, driver CPC) is delivered and recorded
  • Liaise with operations and compliance teams to stay updated on legal and customer-specific training requirements.

Talent Development:

  • Work with all levels of management to create individual development plans (IDPs) and succession planning frameworks
  • Support internal mobility and progression by developing training for upskilling and reskilling
  • Promote a continuous development culture at all levels of the organisation and propose cost-effective solutions in accordance with legislative and future business requirements.

Learning Technology and Systems:

  • Management and maintenance of an LMS (Learning Management System, Litmos)
  • Track and report on training metrics and ROI.

Apprenticeships:

  • Oversee the recruitment, induction and ongoing supervison of apprentices, ensuring external training is provided and on-the-job learning is high quality and individuals are supported, and progressing accordingly in line with the business requirements
  • Manage the Apprenticeship Levy reporting on the progress of expenditure.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate closely with operational leaders to ensure training is relevant, timely, and aligned with the business needs
  • Collaborate with the STEF Head Office L&D stakeholders to align the local strategy with the overall strategy
  • Partner with external training providers where necessary
  • Commit to continuous personal and professional development and reflective practice, and encourage others to do the same.

General Responsibilities:

  • CIPD Level 5 in learning and development or equivalent qualification, with a focus on Organisational Development and Learning, ability to establish credibility with a highly skilled and motivated team
  • Ability to demonstrate a hands-on approach, resilience and manage a high workload
  • Promote company values and code of conduct in all that you do, and to others you come into contract with across the business
  • Adhere to company rules, policies, procedures consistently and encourage others to do the same
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation impacting on your role where required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and ensure that confidentiality is applied where appropriate.

What qualifications and experience are we looking for in our Learning and Development Manager?

  • Extensive experience in developing and delivering a range of effective learning and development solutions for varied groups of staff and abilities
  • Proven experience in people development and/or coaching role
  • IT literate and have the ability to source, design and present information in an accessible and engageing format
  • Experienced in project management and budgeting.
