Langdale Chase Hotel, which sits on the banks of beautiful Lake Windermere, has recently undergone a full and significant refurbishment and reopened its doors in November 2023. In that time the hotel has achieved 5 Star Status from the AA and been recognised in the prestigious Times Top 100 Places to Stay, ranked No.3 and North of England Hotel of the Year.

We are looking for a Boat Crew Assistant to support our Skipper to oversee the operation of all water sports equipment and captaining our boat for voyages as the 2nd Skipper.

Your day to day:

  • To support with the day to day running of the water sports, hire and boat rides continuously providing warm hospitality to our guests.
  • To follow Windermere bylaws and to navigate the boat up to four times per day in the absence of the main skipper.
  • To be responsible for the health and safety of guests on the boat and those utilising the water sports equipment.
  • To assist with the maintenance of the boat and all water sports equipment.
  • To take part in training as required, ensuring that the appropriate standards are upheld.
  • To support with the daily, weekly and monthly checks on all water sports equipment and boat.
  • To support hotel departments as and when required during low season.

Who are we looking for?

This is a really exciting opportunity to be part of the team for a luxury hotel for someone who is looking to develop as a 2nd Skipper, supporting our Skipper with overseeing the operation of all our water sports equipment, as well as supporting with conducting boat voyages daily. You will be responsible for providing warm hospitality serving food and beverages to our guests whilst on the voyages.

You must be highly organised and focused with a great eye for detail and a genuine passion for providing warm hospitality. You will already be an experienced Skipper, with experience of conducting lake voyages for the public. You must have experience of captaining a boat with a minimum qualifications in RYA Safety Boat, Windermere boatman’s licence, first aid and a Full Driving License. Having a qualification as a BCAB paddle sports instructor would be desirable.

You will be fully aware of all health and safety requirements with experience of conducting maintenance checks on both boats and water sports equipment. You will have proven experience of managing emergency situations on the water. You must be able to provide excellent guest service always following our value of warm hospitality and have proven experience of meeting guest requirements as well as going that extra mile. You will be providing information about the local area and therefore you will be required to be extremely knowledgeable in this area.

We’re looking for someone who is a confident communicator who can bring their personality to the role. As the needs of our guests are our highest priority, there may require some flexibility to work at the weekends to support with the ongoing demands of the business. During low season there may be the requirement to support other hotel departments.
