Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominantly in the water industry who have been awarded a programme of work to deliver non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects for Severn Trent Water. They are recruiting for a Senior EICA Engineer to help deliver these projects.
In this role you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design services that support the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of projects across the water and wastewater sectors. You will play a key role in mitigating technical, commercial and delivery risks, ensuring that design solutions are robust, buildable, cost‑effective and aligned with both client specifications and contractual requirements. You will lead and coordinate design activities, producing detailed design documentation and drawings in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, water‑industry standards, and internal engineering governance arrangements.
Responsibilities:
- Produce Outline and Detailed Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation designs that meet client needs and enable safe, efficient construction and commissioning.
- Produce and check specifications, schedules, drawings and calculations to a high standard.
- Ensure designs are completed in accordance with CDM Regulations and industry best practice.
- Promote the use of standard designs and consistent design principles wherever possible.
- Deliver design outputs on time and within budget, keeping colleagues informed throughout.
- Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure coordinated, integrated design solutions.
- Prepare clear and helpful monthly project status reports.
- Build strong working relationships with construction teams and supply chain partners to support buildability and programme efficiency.
- Provide accurate estimates and technical insight to support proposal development.
- Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.
- Contribute positively to departmental processes and support continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate design records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support a culture focused on customer satisfaction and constructive communication.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant engineering degree preferred, or HND with substantial design and build experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution chartered or working towards chartership.
- Significant experience in Electrical and ICA design and delivery, ideally within the water or wastewater sectors.
- Proven ability to develop practical, buildable and efficient design solutions that meet client, project and industry standards.
- Experience producing and checking a full suite of design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, calculations and operating philosophies.
- Ensure designs are completed in accordance with CDM regulations, and are safe to construct, commission, operate and maintain.
- Competence in rationalising designs and developing economical, well‑integrated plant layouts.
- Experience reviewing, coordinating and providing technical assurance on subcontractor designs.
- Ability to manage complex technical information, assess design risks, and communicate implications clearly.
- Experience of managing members of staff, in designing relevant discipline aspects of a project, preferably within Water and Wastewater project delivery.
- Strong understanding of CDM regulations and the ability to ensure designs are safe to construct, commission, operate and maintain.
- Demonstrated commitment to producing designs that follow client specifications, industry guidance and internal governance requirements.
- Ability to embed standard design practices and utilise common design solutions wherever appropriate.
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with construction teams and supply chain partners to support buildability, quality and programme efficiency.
- Proven ability to deliver coordinated design outputs across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
Desirable:
- Relevant Engineering Master’s degree.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) Status.
- Understand the principles of water and sewage treatment.
- Understanding of water and wastewater treatment principles.
- Five or more years’ water‑industry experience.
- Experience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE) and digital document control.
