Our Client: Is committed to unlocking the full potential of biomethane production in the UK. They plan to make an immediate impact by reducing transport, industry and agriculture CO2 emissions. They create & procure biogas from anaerobic digestion facilities in the UK and upgrade it to biomethane. Their biomethane is transported from the anaerobic digestion facility to its point of use, utilising biomethane-powered trucks. The low carbon biomethane will be directly used as an alternative fuel to power vehicles and also injected into the gas grid to create renewable heat. The company has excellent prospects ahead and has plans to grow substantially in the coming years.
The Role: Our client is developing and building multiple multi-year Anaerobic Digestion Contracts and Projects in the UK. They are looking for skilled people to deliver on these fantastic opportunities in Anaerobic Digestion and Biomethane. You will play an important part in the development and securing of Environmental Permits for and then the operation of their multiple challenging anaerobic digestor projects each valued at £25m with a total spend of over £400m. You will help ensure sites are developed in a way which can secure the required Environmental Permits and that the operational business is established and managed in a way that maintains compliance. You will help ensure their environmental management systems and arrangements are at the forefront of best practice and provide assurance that these systems are applied across the business consistently to effectively control the risk of activities across all their sites.
Duties:
- Work with the team to manage the application process and to prepare and submit the full range of documents required for specific sites to secure their environmental permits.
- Develop environmental management systems, processes, forms and record keeping procedures that ensure the company effectively meets its regulatory environmental commitments and legal obligations.
- Set up and maintain the procedures for compiling and producing returns as required for specific regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the compilation of environmental data for evidence of compliance with wider subsidy and accreditation schemes such as Ofgem.
- Be an immediate point of contact for operational environmental compliance matters and support and mentor operational staff in maintaining compliance across the operational sites.
- Support the evaluation of new project proposals and development sites from an environmental permitting and compliance perspective.
- Undertake site inspection visits and internal audits and completion of reports for each site.
- Support operational sites in the application for and accreditation under the BSI PAS 110 standard for Producing Quality Anaerobic Digestate.
- Contribute to the integration of Environmental Management Systems into wider Health, Safety and Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure the required health and safety and operator training and competence records are maintained to evidence compliance with the Environmental Permit.
- Support site operational teams during Environment Agency site visits, permitting inspections and audit processes.
- Support operational staff during incident investigation to ensure that the root cause is established and remedial actions to prevent a reoccurrence are implemented.
There will be a requirement to travel and occasionally stay overnight.
Experience:
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental protection regulations.
- Full understanding and experience of implementing environmental legislation, including waste management, carbon reduction and emergency procedures.
- Proven people management and the ability to influence and motivate operational staff.
- Ability to take a leading role in the implementation of systems to meet company and legislative requirements.
- Educated to a degree level in a relevant subject.
- Evidence of continued professional development and training in relevant areas.
- IT literate around basic MS Office software.
- WAMITAB Level 4 is desirable but not essential.
