Our client is a leading UK-based renewable energy company specializing in the production of biomethane through anaerobic digestion. By partnering closely with local farmers, they convert agricultural and organic waste into clean, green energy while generating valuable by-products such as nutrient-rich bio-fertiliser and high-purity green CO2. This closed-loop approach supports sustainable agriculture, drives rural economic development, and advances the circular economy. With several projects already under development across the United Kingdom, their ambition is to become the country's leading producer of biomethane and to supply up to 25% of the UK's total output. In doing so, it plays a key role in supporting the Government's target to quadruple biomethane production by 2030-2035 and in delivering long-term value for local communities while accelerating the UK's transition to net zero.
Role Profile:
They are recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager preferably with experience in the anaerobic digestion or renewable energy sectors who is an expert in implementing and managing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (HSE) systems that ensure compliance with industry regulations and safeguard high-risk operational environments. Proven ability to conduct detailed risk assessments, develop safe systems of work, and lead emergency response and process safety programs within complex biogas and waste-to-energy facilities. Adept at driving a strong safety culture through training, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives. Works collaboratively with engineers, operators, and senior management to optimise operational safety, reduce incidents, and maintain regulatory compliance with HSE, EA, and COMAH standards. Practically minded as well as commercially astute with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on the development and implementation of HSE strategies and tactical plans.
- Support leadership on safety, occupational health and wellbeing matters.
- Promote integration of H&S best practices across all business functions.
- Provide expert input across projects from planning to delivery including process safety risk assessment such as HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA studies.
- Support supplier onboarding and qualification processes from a H&S perspective.
- Offer guidance on compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM), ensuring duty holders understand their responsibilities throughout the project.
- Monitor and report on H&S performance, identifying trends and recommending actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure systems align with operational needs and risk profiles.
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and site inspections.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in an H&S role within Engineering/Construction process roles.
- Preferable experience in Anaerobic Digestion or gas production.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent recognised H&S qualification.
- Knowledge of ISO standards, and relevant H&S legislation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience of CDM, COMAH, DSEAR, ADR, GSMR regulations.
