Patching and Lining Drainage Engineer

Position: Drainage Engineer – Patching and Lining

Location: Budds Farm WTW, Havant, Hampshire

Job Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week

Salary: £16.00 to £18.00 per hour (OTE £41,700 to £46,900 per annum), depending upon experience

About the role

We are recruiting for a new Drainage Engineer to work in our Patching and Lining team for the Southern Water contract covering the whole of Sussex. The role requires working flexible hours, weekends, and participation in an on‑call rota. Full training, PPE, and company equipment will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to residential sites via a specially equipped van in a two‑person team within the region.
  • Repair and maintain drainage systems, installing patch liners to carry out first‑time‑fix sewer and drain repair.
  • Utilise the Picote system to remove scale, roots, concrete and other hard obstructions that high‑pressure water jetting systems can’t remove.
  • Survey the network of drainage systems and assess pipe conditions to produce high‑quality reports using state‑of‑the‑art drain surveying equipment.
  • Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
  • Deliver good customer service.
  • Maintain good H&S practice while carrying out works.
  • Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE, safe site set‑ups protecting Lanes Group employees, the public and other road users.
  • Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Liaise with the client regarding progress and any updates.
  • Work unsupervised in all weather conditions using correct PPE and the lone worker system.
  • Dynamically risk‑assess site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
  • Provide support to colleagues.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
  • Report any defects or malfunctions in regard to training.
  • Carry out risk assessments and adopt a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
  • Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties requested by management.

Qualifications

  • Hardworking, respectful and compliant with health and safety standards.
  • Experience using high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential.
  • Confined space entry training (AP2) is useful but not essential.
  • Other drainage qualifications (e.g. NRSWA and OS19X) are an advantage.
