We are recruiting a Drainage Engineer to work in 2‑person teams across Sussex for a Southern Water contract, delivering on-site solutions to waste‑water and drainage problems.
Position Details
- Location: Crawley Depot (West Sussex)
- Job Type: Permanent, full‑time
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week (includes flexible hours, weekends and on‑call rota)
- Salary: £27,300 per annum

About the Role
The role involves travelling to residential sites via HGV with a two‑person team, operating high‑pressure water jets for restoration, cleaning and maintaining drainage systems, diagnosing and repairing drains, recording job reports on specialist equipment, and maintaining excellent customer service and health & safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Travel to residential sites via HGV as part of a two‑person team.
- Operate high‑pressure water jets for restoration and clean drainage systems.
- Diagnose and repair drainage systems efficiently.
- Log detailed job reports using specialist equipment.
- Deliver excellent customer service and liaise with the client on progress.
- Follow health & safety practices, wear PPE, and use the lone worker system.
- Maintain vehicle stock and vehicle safety checks.
- Use VISTEC and Salesforce platforms for reporting.
- Risk‑assess site access and working conditions; adapt actions accordingly.
- Support colleagues and provide on‑site assistance.
- Inspect tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
- Report defects or malfunctions and ensure proper training.
- Adhere to all Lanes Group policies and procedures.
- Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Hard‑working, respectful, and compliant with health & safety standards.
- Experience with high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential.
- Drainage qualifications such as NRSWA and confined spaces are an advantage.
