We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Drainage Engineer to join our team working out of our Cardiff Depot. You’ll be working alongside experienced engineers to carry out surveys of drainage systems, learning how to assess conditions, identify defects, and support maintenance and repair strategies. This is a Permanent full time role, Monday to Friday 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address any concerns.
- Assist in identifying drainage issues, including blockages, structural defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
- Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear drains, sewers, and pipework.
- Remove waste materials and prevent build-up in wastewater systems.
- Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
- Support CCTV inspections to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
- Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
- Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.
About you
- Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points)
- A strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering
- A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer skills and a desire to learn new software
