We operate 24/7, and as such, you are required to work flexible hours, weekends, and participate in an on-call rota. Full training, PPE, and use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our drainage engineers have the right tools, competency, and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation regardless of background or previous experience.

Position: Drainage Engineer
Location: Beckton Sewage Treatment Works, Barking, Essex
Job Type: permanent, full-time
Hours: 4 days on 4 days off, 40.25 hours
Salary: OTE £34,000 per annum (made up of basic pay, overtime, on call allowance and bonuses)

About the Role:
Due to continued growth and development, we are looking for customer-focused people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to waste-water network and drainage problems. Responsibilities include:

  • Travelling to residential sites via HGV in a two-person team, powering a high-pressure water jet for restoration.
  • Cleaning, clearing, and maintaining drainage systems.
  • Recording each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
  • Running diagnostics and repairs on drains.
  • Delivering good customer service.
  • Maintaining good health and safety practices while carrying out works.
  • Ensuring vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Complying with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE and safe site setups.
  • Utilising VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Liaising with the client regarding progress and updates.
  • Working unsupervised in all weather conditions.
  • Dynamically risk assessing site access and working conditions.
  • Providing support to colleagues.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of tools, equipment, and plant before/after use.
  • Reporting any defects or malfunctions.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and having a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Being aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibility towards them.
  • Any other reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by management.

About You:
The ideal candidate will be hard-working and respectful and comply with health and safety standards. Experience in the use of High Pressure Jetting equipment is useful but not essential. Other drainage qualifications (e.g. NRSWA and Confined Spaces) are an advantage.
