We operate 24/7, requiring flexible hours, weekends, and participation in an on-call rota. Full training, PPE, and use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our drainage engineers have the right tools and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation.

Position: HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer (Special Projects Division)
Location: Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, South London Region (Abbey Wood, Greater London)
Job Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours a week (3 weeks of days, 1 week of nights)
Salary: OTE £50,000 per annum (made up of basic pay, overtime, on call allowance and bonuses)

About The Role: We are looking for customer-focused individuals to join our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver effective solutions to waste-water network and drainage problems.

  • Travelling to residential sites via a HGV in a two-person team, powering a high-pressure water jet for restoration.
  • Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems.
  • Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
  • Run diagnostics and repairs on drains.
  • Deliver good customer service.
  • Maintain good health and safety practices while carrying out works.
  • Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE and safe site setups.
  • Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Operate JHL specification vacuum tankers and associated equipment.
  • Safely access vehicle cabs, sites and offices using correct procedures.
  • Manipulate flexible pipework safely using correct manual handling techniques.
  • Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, wearing correct PPE or utilising the lone worker system.
  • Dynamically risk assess site access and working conditions.
  • Liaise with the client regarding process and updates.
  • Provide support to colleagues.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
  • Report any defects or malfunctions.
  • Carry out risk assessments and have a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
  • Any other reasonable ad-hoc tasks, duties or projects as requested by management.

If you enjoy working outdoors and delivering excellent customer service, we are the right company for you. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, respectful, and comply with health and safety standards. Experience in High Pressure Jetting equipment is useful but not essential. Other drainage qualifications (e.g. NRSWA and Confined Spaces) are an advantage. You must have a minimum of a HGV Class 2 licence, completed the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), and have an up-to-date digi tachograph card.
