Patching and Lining Drainage Engineer

We are recruiting Drainage Engineers for the Southern Water contract to cover Sussex on our Patching and Lining team.

The role involves travelling to residential sites in a two-person team, repairing and maintaining drainage systems, and providing reliable customer service.

Hours

Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week (including flexible hours, weekends and on‑call rota)

Salary

£16.00 to £18.00 per hour (OTE £41,700 to £46,900 per annum), depending on experience

Responsibilities

  • Travel to residential sites via a specially equipped van in a two-person team around the region.
  • Repair and maintain drainage systems, installing patch liners for first-time-fix sewer and drain repair.
  • Use the Picote system to remove scale, roots, concrete and other hard obstructions that high‑pressure water jetting cannot remove.
  • Survey the drainage network and assess pipe conditions to produce high‑quality reports using state‑of‑the‑art drain surveying equipment.
  • Record each job accurately on the specialist equipment provided.
  • Deliver good customer service.
  • Maintain good health & safety practice while carrying out works.
  • Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
  • Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE, safe site set‑ups and lone‑worker systems.
  • Use VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Liaise with the client regarding progress and updates.
  • Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, using correct PPE and lone‑worker systems.
  • Dynamically assess site access and working conditions and adjust risk accordingly.
  • Provide support to colleagues.
  • Inspect tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
  • Report any defects or malfunctions in relation to training.
  • Carry out risk assessments with a mature approach to risk perception.
  • Adhere to all Lanes Group policies and responsibilities.
  • Carry out other reasonable ad‑hoc duties as requested by management.

Qualifications

  • Hard working, respectful, and compliant with health and safety standards.
  • Experience with high‑pressure jetting equipment (useful but not essential).
  • Confined space entry training (AP2) preferred.
  • Drainage qualifications such as NRSWA, OS19X advantageous.
  • Ability to diagnose and deliver practical, efficient solutions quickly.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
