Position: Minor Civils Supervisor
Location: Crawley Depot (Sussex Region)
Job Type: permanent, full time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week (start times to be discussed in interview)
Salary: £17.50 - £20.00 per hour (depending on experience)

The Minor Civils Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of civils crews delivering minor highways works. The role ensures works are completed safely, compliantly, on time, and to client standards while maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and manage both HGV and non-HGV civils crews, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are met at all times.
- Plan, monitor, and manage incoming works and backlog jobs, ensuring effective prioritisation and resource allocation.
- Maintain full team compliance, including adherence to health & safety, company procedures, and client requirements.
- Complete and record safety audits, inspections, and toolbox talks, addressing any non-conformances promptly.
- Conduct investigation meetings, including those that may lead to formal disciplinary action, in line with company policy.
- Update and manage sickness and absence records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Manage and approve team holidays via Cascade, ensuring adequate operational cover at all times.
- Liaise with clients regularly, attending face-to-face meetings and Microsoft Teams meetings to discuss performance, progress, and issues.
- Ensure compliance with highways permitting processes, coordinating works to meet permit conditions and deadlines.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, crews, subcontractors, and internal departments.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within civils or highways works.
- Strong working knowledge of highways permitting processes.
- Ability to manage mixed crews, including HGV and non-HGV teams.
- Confident in using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
- Experience handling absence management, holidays, and compliance records.
- Able to carry out investigations and manage people-related issues professionally and fairly.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Street Works (NRSWA) card – required (training can be provided if not currently held).
- Relevant civils or highways qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Strong communicator with the ability to adapt to both site-based teams and senior client stakeholders.
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and confident decision-maker.
- Strong relationship builder with a professional and approachable manner.
