About The Role

Working for our Southern Water Contract you will work alongside a HGV/Jetting Operative – providing support from and cleaning of the tanker that carry out tankering services in the Hampshire Region. Working in a confined space you will enter the tanker and jet the tanker out. Due to the nature of the work you will be provided with full PPE for working within wastewater in the tanker. You must be fully able to work within non‑hazardous waste and in a confined space.

Salary: £17 per hour. Hours: 50 hours per week, 30 mins unpaid break, Monday‑Friday (6am‑5pm). Location: Millbrook covering the Hampshire area. Holidays: 21 days plus bank holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the tanker for work to be carried out.
  • Enter the confined space of the tanker.
  • Clean (jet) the tanker.
  • Operate the high‑pressure jetting equipment.
  • Undertake face‑fit testing regularly and remain clean‑shaven when required to enter confined spaces.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is inspected, calibrated, tested and available in good working order.
  • Report to the manager/authorised person any incident, dangerous occurrence or defect during work in confined spaces.
  • Ensure employees are fully briefed and understand the risks and controls.
  • Complete all entry documentation.
  • Understand and accept permits to work.
  • Ensure appropriate emergency procedures are in place.
  • Stop work and withdraw personnel and equipment if for any reason the conditions of the confined space change or the agreed procedure or permit cannot be met.
  • Designate an Emergency Rescue Team.
  • Any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties, tasks or projects requested by management.

Experience & Capabilities

  • Operatives are medically fit on the day of the planned entry (colds and respiratory illness can affect a person’s ability to wear breathing apparatus – this also includes being clean‑shaven).
  • Previous experience in drainage.
  • Confined Space Ticket.
  • Ideally hold a High Pressure Jetting Ticket.
  • High Risk Ticket.
