About the Role
Working for our Southern Water Contract you will work alongside an HGV/Jetting Operative, providing support and cleaning of the tankers that carry out tankering services in the Hampshire Region. You will enter confined spaces to clean the tankers. Due to the nature of the work you will be provided with full PPE, as the work involves a high degree of working with wastewater inside the tanker. You must be able to work within non-hazardous waste and confined spaces.
Salary: £17 per hour
Hours: 50 hours per week, 30 minutes unpaid break, Monday to Friday (6am – 5pm)
Location: Crawley, covering the Sussex area
Holidays: 21 days plus bank holidays
Responsibilities
- Assess the tanker for work to be carried out
- Enter confined space within the tanker
- Clean (jet the tanker)
- Operate the high pressure jetting equipment
- Undertake face‑fit testing on a regular basis and remain clean‑shaven when required to enter confined spaces
- Ensure all safety equipment is inspected, calibrated, tested and in good working order
- Report to the manager or authorised person any incident, danger, defect or other exceptional occurrence during work in confined spaces
- Employees are fully briefed and understand the risks and controls
- Ensure all entry documentation is completed
- Understand and accept permits to work
- Ensure appropriate emergency procedures are in place
- Stop work and withdraw personnel and equipment if conditions in the confined space change or the agreed procedure or permit cannot be met
- Designate Emergency Rescue Team
- Any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties, tasks or projects requested by management
Experience & Capabilities
- Operatives must be medically fit on the day of the planned entry (colds and respiratory illness can affect a person’s ability to wear breathing apparatus – must be clean‑shaven)
- Previous experience in drainage
- Confined Space Ticket
- Ideally hold a High Pressure Jetting Ticket
- High Risk Ticket
