The Lanes Group are the UK’s largest independent provider of water and wastewater solutions and services, playing a vital role in maintaining the seamless operations of the nation’s water systems. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Excavation Engineer to join our Chester depot due to our increased workload.
Salary: up to £17.50 per hour depending on experience
Location: Chester
Hours: 40 hours per week
Enhanced overtime rates, with uncapped earning potential.

You will be working as part of a two‑person team on groundwork projects, including:
- Small‑medium civils works
- Drainage‑related repairs
- Deep and shallow excavation
- Pipe work renewals
- Reinstatements
- General ground works
Your schedule will vary to include all types of clients and worksites, from commercial and residential to industrial, rail, road and utility, right across the region. You’ll also need to be part of our award‑winning health and safety programme which covers all aspects of your life at Lanes.
About you:
- Full driving licence (required) with no more than 6 penalty points
Desirable:
- NRSWA streetworks
- Machine ticket (excavator above/below 10t)
- Confined space level 2 and above
- Cat & Genny location
- Shoring
- CSCS
- Manual handling
- First aid at work
