Purpose Of The Role
As a Technical Trainer you will build the skills, confidence and capability of our field‑based drainage teams. Reporting to the Learning & Development Specialist you will design and deliver engaging, practical training that prepares teams to respond effectively to operational challenges such as sewer blockages, flooding incidents and proactive cleaning activities. This role blends hands‑on technical training with a strong focus on safe working practices. You will ensure all learning aligns with Lanes Group policies, Yorkshire Water standards and current industry regulations. Through clear instruction, practical demonstrations and ongoing skills assessments you will help our teams work safely, efficiently and to consistently high standards.

- Travel: Required across our network, including Bradford and York – company vehicle provided
- Job Type: Permanent, full‑time
- Hours: Monday to Friday (42.5 hours)
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver safety‑critical training programmes across the Sapphire region, covering confined spaces, water jetting, construction skills and City & Guilds‑accredited modules.
- Produce engaging and accessible learning materials in multiple formats.
- Facilitate in‑person and virtual training sessions for operatives, supervisors and managers, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Lanes safety standards.
- Review and update training materials regularly to reflect legislative changes and HSQE protocols.
- Track delegate feedback, assessment results and training outcomes to support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with HSQE, L&D and operational teams to ensure training is relevant, impactful and aligned to business goals.
- Assess and sign off staff and in‑house trainers, confirming competence in safety‑critical tasks.
- Maintain accurate, auditable records of all training delivered – certification, assessments and reporting.
- Support operational readiness by ensuring mandatory and role‑specific training is completed on time and to required standard.
- Coach and support new starters and internal trainers during onboarding or upskilling, providing guidance and responding to queries.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support the Group’s objectives.
About You – Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to design creative, engaging training content across multiple formats.
- Experience creating assessments and delivering constructive feedback.
- Strong attention to detail when developing training materials.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills – face‑to‑face and virtual.
- Willingness and ability to travel across sites including Bradford, York and Leyland.
- Adaptation of training approaches to suit different water contracts and audience needs.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with Lanes Group operations, sites and values.
- Experience using data to measure training effectiveness.
- Knowledge of Sapphire or similar water/utilities joint ventures.
- Ability to integrate compliance requirements into engaging training content.
- Experience managing training budgets and resources.
Training & Qualifications Required
- Qualified Assessor: A1, TAQA or equivalent.
- Confined Space Assessor certification.
- Water Jetting Association (WJA) Instructor certification.
- City & Guilds or equivalent accredited Trainer status.
- CITB‑accredited training credentials.
- Health & Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
