About the Role
Sapphire Utility Solutions are seeking a Drainage Engineer to be based in Barrow‑in‑Furness to oversee our new contract with Cumbria County Council. You will be working closely with a HGV driver to clean along the highways around the region. Flexibility in regards to hours is a must, as you will be required to stay overnight on occasions and work some weekends. No two days are the same; be prepared to learn and develop along the way.
As a Drainage Engineer you will assist with getting in and out of the cab to conduct work accordingly, so a hands‑on approach is needed and you must be willing to get stuck in. You will be responsible for using a company tablet on a daily basis and work outdoors for the majority of your day – a love of the great outdoors is also a must, as well as a mixture of days, nights and working away.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Operate heavy machinery when needed
- Work as part of a team alongside a HGV driver
- Work days, nights and, on occasions, away from home
- Use a tablet to record data and maintain accurate records
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Team player with a positive, can‑do attitude
- Competent in IT and accurate data entry

Hours & Salary
Hours: 50 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 6 am–4 pm day shift and 5 pm–3 am night shift). Salary: £32,500 per annum, with X1.5 for overtime. You will also be required to go on a standby rota and be flexible to the business needs in working nights and weekends. This is a full‑time position within a growing, busy department.
