The Minor Civils Engineer is a key part of the Special Projects team, repairing and replacing broken sewer chamber frames and covers, whilst adhering to BSI regulations.
Position: HGV Minor Civils Engineer
Location: Crawley Depot, Sussex Region (Crawley, West Sussex)
Job Type: permanent, full time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week (start times to be discussed on interview)
Salary: Competitive, depending upon experience

About the role: Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for customer focused people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Southern Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to waste-water network and drainage problems.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure materials are stocked from the depot for all work planned including but not limited to sewer chamber covers, cement, resin, tarmac.
- Prepare the boiler system for the tarmac whilst at the depot, ensuring the correct temperature is reached.
- Conduct an onsite risk assessment, supported by the appropriate photos.
- Deploy traffic management as per processes and rams and evidence with photos.
- Complete a service avoidance of the area for cables and services alongside documenting photos.
- Repair and replace broken sewer chamber frames and covers referring to the SOP F&C PMMA step-by-step installation guide.
- Remove defected Sewer Chamber cover using the appropriate tools, with photographic evidence.
- Measure the area to cut, clearly marked out, ensuring clean lines and accuracy, remove spoil and confirm with pictures.
- Lay the bed and frame ensuring it is level, supported by photos.
- Lay the resin, tarmac and chippings in accordance with the guide alongside documenting photos.
- Ensure any waste left on site is cleared and confirm with pictures.
- Review any changes to the Standard Operating Practice and adhere to any amendments throughout your work.
- Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
- Any other reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by management.
