In 2020, LCP launched its Health practice, providing analytical and research services across healthcare and life sciences. Our team brings together clinicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists and health data scientists, alongside LCP's established actuarial, analytics and technology expertise, to develop innovative solutions to some of the most important challenges in health. We have grown rapidly in response to strong demand for our services and are now looking for a Health Data Engineer (Associate Consultant) to help scale our delivery capability.

You will play an important part in strengthening LCP Health's capabilities in delivering analytics projects where there is a requirement to construct analytical databases from clients' raw and unstructured data. Additionally, you will support the data engineering function by maintaining and enhancing data infrastructure and processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply modern engineering and automation approaches to complex, high-impact problems in healthcare and life sciences.

What will you be doing?

As a Health Data Engineer (Associate Consultant) in LCP's Health team, you will work across a diverse range of data engineering projects that support both client delivery and the development of reusable internal capabilities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Design and implement robust data models to support analytical, reporting and operational requirements across complex health data

  • Develop and maintain analytical databases that integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources

  • Develop and maintain reliable, production-grade technical infrastructure to support analytical and operational processes

  • Automate and improve workflows across data processing, data management, analysis and reporting

  • Implement testing, validation and monitoring processes to improve the robustness, accuracy and maintainability of pipelines and applications

  • Contribute to good engineering practice through documentation, code review, version control and continuous improvement of technical standards

  • Implement testing, validation and monitoring processes to improve the robustness, accuracy and maintainability of pipelines and applications

  • Identify opportunities to improve data management, engineering processes and delivery approaches across the LCP Health team

  • Support cloud-based architecture, particularly in Azure, including performance optimisation, resilience and scalability

  • Work closely with clinicians, analysts, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists and other colleagues to turn complex analytical requirements into practical engineering solutions

  • Support the secure, reliable and appropriately governed use of automation and AI tools, particularly in contexts involving sensitive or high-assurance health data

What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?

  • A minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Within the UK healthcare and/or life sciences industry, demonstrable (likely 3+ years) experience in a data engineering or similar role with a particular focus on design and delivery of analytical data models

  • Experience with Azure Cloud Services, particularly Azure Data Factory, Databricks, SQL server/SQL databases

  • Experience working with version control and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, Git)

  • Excellent programming skills in both SQL and Python with experience in R being desirable

  • Hands on experience building ELT data pipelines

  • Familiarity with AI/LLM-based tooling or applications

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a practical approach to designing solutions to complex technical and operational challenges

  • Outcomes-focused, designing solutions that are effective and usable

  • Comfortable with, and enjoyment in, working as part of a small, dynamic and multidisciplinary team, comfortable leading on day-to-day project activities with support from more experienced team members

  • Initiative and creativity

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical internal stakeholders and project teams

  • Excellent organisational skills

Highly desirable skills and experience include:

  • Experience working with sensitive data or in settings where traceability, reproducibility and quality assurance are important

  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks and regulatory guidance for real world health data
