This role plays a crucial part in supporting local authorities to comply with their adult social care legal duties. You will lead and manage legal proceedings in the Court of Protection and provide expert advice on critical areas of adult social care law. Your work will directly contribute to the protection of vulnerable individuals and the delivery of high-quality public services.
What you’ll be doing
- Act in Court of Protection proceedings, particularly relating to welfare and deprivation of liberty.
- Draft applications, file evidence and prepare for hearings on behalf of local authority clients.
- Provide legal advice on adult social care law, particularly mental capacity, and potentially safeguarding, mental health, and wider community care issues.
- Manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision while maintaining high professional standards.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships based on trust and reliability.
- Time-record accurately and manage workload efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Ensure all legal work complies with SRA standards and ethics.
What we’re looking for
- A qualified Solicitor with solid experience in adult social care law, including in particular mental capacity and Court of Protection work.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills across written and verbal formats.
- Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Confident in file management and legal research.
- Commercially aware and customer-focused approach.
- Advocacy experience desirable but not essential.
- Resilient, motivated, and adaptable team player.
