We are seeking to appoint a number of committee members to our standing committee in the following 2 Standing Committees:

  • Policy & Public Affairs
  • Membership & Professional Standards

Last year the LI launched four new standing committees, representing a new era for member engagement and shaping the future of the profession. The Standing Committees ensure that the overall direction of our work, our priorities and outputs. They guide, lead and deliver much of the LI’s member and external-facing work, including overseeing the work of our Task & Finish Groups. Our Committees are set up to include members from a diverse range of backgrounds, and at different stages of their professional career. We need your experience, skills and expertise to help make the LI effective and influential on behalf of the whole membership.

This is an exciting opportunity for a member to make a difference by bringing their skills, knowledge and experience along with passion and enthusiasm to Standing Committees. The role of the committee is to provide insight, information and advice to the Council and Board to ensure well-informed decisions and activity. The committee will report to the Council and provide regular updates of activities and plans and present an annual report to the Board. The Committees meet at least quarterly for an average of 2-3 hours per meeting. Most of these will be held online but at least one per year will be held in-person. Members may also participate in other activities according to the committee they represent. This could include writing/contributing to tasks, attending meetings within the LI or with other key stakeholders.

Membership & Professional Standards (MPSC) Chaired by Mark Smeedan, CMLI the MPSC plays a key role in driving high standards in the landscape profession, monitoring and ensuring compliance against the Institute’s professional standards, providing strategic oversight to ensure a high-quality profession, and growing membership in inclusive and equitable ways.

Policy & Public Affairs (PPAC) Chaired by Ian Phillips, CMLI the PPAC plays a vital role in maximising the LI’s impact on the world – influencing government policy and building relationships with other organisations to further our objectives. The Committee works with the staff team to identify priority policy areas and strategies to influence other organisations and achieve positive changes in government policy on behalf of the membership.

Key Criteria A key criterion for the role is you will have a strong team player ethos and proven experience and understanding of the expertise required for the committee you wish to join.
