An amazing opportunity has arisen for an HR Professional / People Engagement & Development Partner to join this global international relief charity at their Hertfordshire UK HQ. This is an excellent role, and would suit a candidate looking to transition to the charity sector or for an experienced charity HR Professional with significant previous experience in a similar capacity. The successful candidate will play a critical role in cultivating a healthy, values-aligned culture within the charity and will work closely with the ELT. By partnering with managers, the role will embed strong people practices, engagement, learning and performance frameworks. You will work alongside their HR Consultant on governance, policy and complex employment matters.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing day-to-day people management support to managers and ELT, including performance, absence, well-being, capability, and general employment matters.
- Holding regular check-ins with all managers to provide proactive HR support and identify emerging issues early (such as performance, wellbeing, conflict, morale).
- Supporting managers with HR processes such as 1-2-1 frameworks, maternity and family leave, exit interviews, disciplinaries, investigations, staff conflict and probation reviews.
- Managing routine employee relations matters and referring complex, high-risk or legally sensitive cases to the HR Consultant in line with agreed governance boundaries.
- Contributing to cross-departmental HR and culture projects, ensuring consistency and good practice, championing organisational values, behaviours and strength-based approaches across all teams.
- Supporting staff in understanding and engaging positively with the organisation’s Christian faith identity in an inclusive, respectful way.
- Working with the Head of Brand and Communications on managing internal communications to the staff team for engagement and culture alignment.
- Being the Recruitment & Onboarding Partner working with hiring managers to deliver value-aligned recruitment processes, ensuring an excellent candidate experience and compliance with agreed frameworks.
- Designing, building and maintaining a strong, consistent induction process, incorporating global context, organisational mission, faith identity orientation and future aspirations.
- Dropping into manager 1-2-1s and conducting onboarding meetings as needed to ensure new staff are settling well.
- Leading the organisation’s learning and development approach, ensuring opportunities are accessible, relevant and aligned with organisational needs.
- Further responsibilities for Policy, Frameworks & HR Infrastructure.
You can demonstrate previous experience in a similar Human Resources position and ideally CIPD level 5 or equivalent experience. You are confident supporting managers through a broad range of employment matters. You have a strong understanding of UK employment law (and ideally charity-sector HR dynamics). Excellent relationship-building, coaching and communication skills are essential. Experience designing and implementing people processes (recruitment, onboarding, performance, etc.) is required. You should have the ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy, care and confidentiality. Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail, strong communication & relationship management skills, excellent organisation in managing multiple priorities, collaborative team working abilities and a positive, intuitive attitude, along with a willingness to learn & to take initiative with a practical “can-do!” approach are also important.
The charity is driven by Christian values and as such there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) in accordance with section 9 of the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder for this role will be a practising Christian (non-denominational) with an active Faith.
