A unique opportunity has arisen for a Standby Range Clearer to join our dedicated team at Landmarc Support Services in Okehampton, Devon. As the Standby Range Clearer you will work on horseback, riding over the Ministry of Defence Training Estate, helping us deliver services that support military training. This is a Variable Attendance agreement. Days of work will be notified to you as far in advance as possible and an average minimum of 6 days every six months are guaranteed by the Company. Location: Okehampton Training Camp, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 1QP

Main Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for carrying out any duties within your capability as required to support estate delivery focusing on, but not limited to, Training Area clearance of livestock and personnel within the Range Danger Area (RDA) and surveillance to establish and maintain the safe place to train.
  • To ensure that the Training Estate Facilities adhere to safe systems of work e.g. clearance of stock, collection of litter and military debris, carry out condition reports and defect reporting, control of access including security cordons, report and deal with unauthorised persons on the Training Area Estate.
  • Carry out any other additional requirements as needed.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Appropriate knowledge of Dartmoor and in particular range areas.
  • Ability to safely ride a horse and work and control two working dogs for stock driving and or gathering.
  • Adhere to Landmarc’s Health & Safety policy and safe working practices on foot & horseback.
  • Own or provide a suitable horse for use on Dartmoor ranges at own expense.
  • Own suitable horse transport and have the appropriate driving licence.
  • Own two trained sheep dogs.
