The GIS team supports spatial requirements across the Environmental/Rural Estate, Built Estate, and Military Estate, providing essential services that enable efficient operational delivery and strategic planning. GIS plays a key role in supporting estate management processes such as grounds maintenance, snow & ice clearance, forestry management planning, environmental compliance, and range management applications that contribute directly to military safe systems.
As a GIS Placement Student, you’ll play a key part in maintaining and developing our geospatial data and mapping services. Your work will support teams across the organisation, helping ensure our digital records are accurate, accessible, and ready to inform decision‑making.
Hours of work: 37 per week
Hybrid: 2 - 3 days a week
Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term
Location: Westdown Camp, Tilshead, Salisbury Wiltshire SP3 4RX
Nearest Train Station: Salisbury Train Station, South Western Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP2 7RS
Travel Required: You will be expected to undertake a limited amount of UK travel as project needs dictate.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist the GIS team in creating and maintaining accurate, high‑quality digital records within the GIS enterprise system, including maintaining linkages to other corporate databases.
- Produce maps, reports, and other GIS outputs for the business, ensuring all products are reliable, clear, and up to date.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to support shared goals and deliver effective geospatial solutions.
- Contribute ideas and support ongoing development of GIS tools, processes, and capabilities.
- Occasional UK site travel as needed.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Some background or academic experience with GIS, demonstrating geospatial awareness.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Driven, self‑motivated, and enthusiastic about learning new skills.
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Experience using Esri ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or similar) is desirable.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
- Access to own transport due to the rural location of site.

About the Company:
Landmarc provides the support services that enable Armed Forces from around the world to prepare for frontline military operations across the UK Defence Training Estate (DTE). This includes maintaining and delivering safe and sustainable infrastructure, managing and operating training areas and ranges, and delivering multi-million pound projects to improve vital training assets.
