Landmarc Support Services are currently seeking to recruit a Rural Training Area Operative to join our dedicated rural team based from Wathgill Camp. In this role you will play a key part in helping to maintain a safe, efficient and sustainable place for our Armed Forces to train. We are looking for someone enthusiastic about working in an outdoor rural environment, dedicated to supporting the Military. Some existing Rural Qualifications and Experience would be an advantage, but Landmarc can provide training and continuous development opportunities for the right candidate, making this a fantastic opportunity to start a career on the Defence Training Estate.

Shifts run between: 07:30 - 17:30 from Monday to Friday. Hours of work: 37 per week. Contract: Permanent. Location: Wathgill Camp, Wathgill, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL11 6AH.

To work as part of the Rural Team based at Wathgill Camp and covering all Sites across the northeast (Mainly Catterick & Feldom Training Areas). In this role, you will join a group of rural operatives dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of the Defence Training Estate. Typical tasks will be:

  • Track Repairs
  • Fencing and Wall Repairs
  • Forestry work including dealing with windblown trees
  • Other various rural tasks to ensure a safe, efficient and sustainable place for our Armed Forces to train.

Operations - To ensure that the Rural Training Estate is fit for purpose in accordance with the Training Estate Support Contract. Works Include:

  • Operation of rural plant & machinery, including tractors with attachments
  • General rural estate maintenance: Tree works, fencing, strimming, planting, track works, dry stone walling, and other rural tasks
  • Adherence to Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, manual handling, COSHH requirements
  • Reporting defects and other reactive maintenance
  • To complete all relevant documentation utilising both IT and paper-based systems

Essential Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a rural environment
  • Experience using Health & Safety processes and Risk Assessments
  • A Valid UK Full Driving Licence
  • Experience in operating Tractors/Plant & Machinery
  • Experience working with Chainsaws and other forestry equipment

Essential Qualifications

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Qualifications/Experience in land-based working

Desirable Knowledge / Qualifications

  • Qualifications in Chainsaw Operations
  • Qualifications in Operating Plant & Machinery such as Tractors with Attachments/Machinery used in Track Works
  • Qualifications in Forestry Works/Machinery
  • Qualifications/Experience in Team Leadership
