Landmarc Support Services is seeking a motivated Team Leader to join our rural team based at Wathgill Camp and other locations in the North East. In this role, you will lead a group of rural operatives dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of the Defence Training Estate. Typical tasks will include track repairs, fencing and wall repairs, forestry work including dealing with windblown trees, and other rural tasks to ensure a safe, efficient and sustainable place for our Armed Forces to train.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in a rural maintenance environment or experience leading a high-performing team in a similar setting.

Shifts run between: Monday - Friday between 07:30 and 17:30

Hours of work: 37 per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Wathgill Camp, Wathgill, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL11 6AH

Interviews will be held on: Week commencing Monday 16th March

Main Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for coordinating a team as the first line manager by being the first point of contact, task allocation and work checking.
  • This includes conducting workplace talks, coordinating annual leave requests, overtime claims, informal staff management and performance development progress meetings.
  • Monitoring of rural equipment and materials.
  • Operations - To ensure that the Rural Training Estate is fit for purpose in accordance with the Training Estate Support Contract.
  • Works include operation of rural plant and machinery, including tractors with attachments.
  • General rural estate maintenance: tree works, fencing, strimming, planting, track works, dry stone walling, and other rural tasks.
  • Adherence to Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, manual handling, COSHH requirements.
  • Reporting defects and other reactive maintenance.
  • To complete all relevant documentation utilising both IT and paper-based systems.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience of working in a rural environment.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety protocols, including COSHH, manual handling, and risk assessments.
  • Experience working with chainsaws and other forestry equipment.
  • Experience in land-based working.
  • Familiarity with estate services, grounds maintenance, and plant machinery operations.
  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and database management.
  • A valid UK manual driving licence is essential for this role.

Desirable Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in Chainsaw Operations.
  • Qualifications in Operating Plant & Machinery such as tractors with attachments / machinery used in track works.
  • Qualifications in Forestry Works / Machinery.
  • Qualifications / Experience in Team Leadership.
