Summary of Role
We are looking for an electrical bias Authorised Person Coordinator to join our team and manage safe systems of work across the Defence Training Estate in the East Region. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence in a complex and high‑risk environment.
Travel required: This regional role will require travel within the East region to include sites in Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Northamptonshire.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the implementation and operation of prescribed MoD Safety Rules and Procedures as an Authorised Person for the Mechanical, Electrical, Petroleum systems installations and locations where appointed.
- Ensure the implementation and operation of the Gas Safety Management Plans as a Responsible Person (Gas) for the installations and locations where appointed.
- Issue Permits to Work; Standing Instructions and other safety documentation as required.
- Maintain the documents, document centres / Service Register elements of the safe system of work.
- Review, assess, appoint and monitor skilled persons to comply with safety systems including advising, developing and coaching to ensure compliance with system and JSP requirements.
- Liaise with Authorising Engineers and Area Delivery Managers to ensure safe systems of work are implemented effectively and efficiently to enable full contract delivery.
- Maintain a watching brief on mechanical, electrical, petroleum and gas infrastructure (within competencies of appointment) to ensure this remains compliant. Raise reactive and remedial works tasks as necessary.
- Oversee contractors, ensuring quality and compliance with maintenance standards.
- Identify and maintain key assets, recommending improvements where needed.
- Support planned and reactive maintenance activities.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Knowledge & Experience
- Qualified to HNC level in Electrical engineering related discipline or equivalent.
- Qualified to BS7671: th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
- Experience as an Authorised Person, ideally appointed by an Authorising Engineer.
- Expertise in systems such as High Voltage Electrical, Low Voltage Electrical, Mechanical, and Compressed Air.
- Understanding of PTW systems (HSG250, JSP375 or similar) and isolation planning for complex engineering services.
- Knowledge of MoD Defence contracts and MoD technical standards would be advantageous.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong influencing skills with ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Collaborative problem‑solving approach and ability to uphold company values.
- Strong IT skills with the ability to interrogate Asset and Maintenance Management Systems (Maximo).
- Ability to challenge the status quo and drive process improvements.
Prerequisites for Employment
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (including Basic Police Disclosure).
- UK residency for at least 5 years (to meet security vetting requirements).
