As a Gas Metering Architect, you will play a critical role in ensuring that Landis+Gyr’s products can be confidently deployed across multiple international markets. Your expertise directly enables safe, compliant and timely product launches which support the energy transition and the modernization of utility infrastructure. You will be trusted as a subject-matter expert, influencing design decisions early in development and shaping certification strategies for complex, safety-critical products used by utilities across EMEA. The role covers both maintenance of existing products and development of new products.
The Gas Metering Architect will work closely with the EMEA-based Product Development teams as part of a cross-functional team responsible for ensuring that UK, IRL and EU gas metering products comply with all relevant directives, regulations and standards. The role involves decomposition of market and product requirements into technically detailed work packages and items for the development teams to implement, technically supporting the teams with implementation matters, plus active participation in change control activities to ensure ongoing compliance and product integrity.
To develop, maintain and evolve high-accuracy gas metering end-to-end solutions, ensuring long-term measurement stability, regulatory compliance and readiness for next-generation materials and smart metering platforms. The role contributes to both sustaining existing product lines and enabling future designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the UK-based Solutions Architects, Gas Metering Metrology Specialist, Product and Project Management, and Development Engineers to plan and execute the development of UK gas meter products against applicable requirements, directives, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Definition of new product development from early concept through validation and industrialisation, into delivery.
- Participate as a member of the Change Control Board, reviewing proposed product, process or design changes.
- Advise where required that all changes discussed and approved through change control are supported by appropriate levels of testing.
- Review where required that test results associated with changes are complete, accurate and sufficient to demonstrate continued compliance.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplined engineering, quality and compliance teams to support timely approvals and certifications, preparing material where necessary to support these activities.
- Produce clear technical documentation, reports and design justification for internal and external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in supporting product approval, compliance, certification or testing within a regulated engineering environment (gas, utilities, metering or similar preferred).
- Ability to interpret technical standards, directives and regulatory requirements.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity during early-stage technology development.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess test results and identify issues or trends.
- Experience participating in or supporting change control processes.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to documentation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Long-term perspective on product lifetime, reliability and compliance.
- Passion for advancing sustainable technologies into deliverable products.
Desirable
- Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics or other related field.
- Strong experience with embedded firmware development in smart metering or other metrology-critical systems.
- Understanding of sensor physics (at a functional level) and digital signal processing.
- Experience working in regulated environments where firmware impacts legal metrology.
- Ability to work across disciplines and translate requirements into robust firmware solutions.
- Familiarity with working full product designs and developments within Azure DevOps.
