Lander Medical Practice are looking for a part‑time Healthcare Assistant to join our team for 22 hours per week Monday to Wednesday between the hours of 8am and 5pm, and to cover annual leave and sickness. The role will involve supporting the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within the HCA scope of practice to the registered patient population. You will need to be confident and empathetic in dealing with the public, remain calm under pressure and have excellent communication and customer service skills.
Main Duties of the Job
- Undertake venepuncture
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, pulse oximetry and record findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24‑hour BP monitoring and advise patients accordingly
- Support the practice nurse with chronic disease clinic management
- Act as a chaperone as required
- When trained, administer flu/covid vaccinations, B12 injections and other vaccines
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Provide support during minor operations as required
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced according to the practice IPC policy
Qualifications
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3
- Qualified in phlebotomy
- Experience of working with a healthcare setting
- Experience in administering injections including flu, pneumococcal, B12
- Experience in carrying out ECGs
- Experience in carrying out BP / ABPM
