Are you passionate about supporting students with social communication challenges and looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact? This exciting opportunity invites you to join the Student Wellbeing Services team at Lancaster University as a Wellbeing Mentor. In this role, you will focus on supporting students with ADHD, Autism, and Asperger’s Syndrome to develop practical skills that help them transition into university life, succeed during their studies, and prepare for future study or employment.
Purpose of the Role: You will provide specialist mentoring skills and advice to students with social communication difficulties, enabling them to thrive at Lancaster. Your contributions will help students manage daily life, workload, and foster inclusion within the university community.
Responsibilities
- Assist students pre‑arrival and encourage participation in the “Preparing for Lancaster” programme.
- Conduct structured mentoring sessions, both one‑to‑one and in groups, focusing on academic skills and independence.
- Help students with prioritisation, time management, and stress‑management techniques to cope with anxiety.
- Work with colleagues within Student Wellbeing Services to implement reasonable adjustments for students.
- Maintain accurate records of student engagement and seek feedback for continuous service evaluation.
- Facilitate students’ integration and belonging within the university community.
Qualifications
- Mentoring or coaching qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience of supporting individuals with social communication challenges in an advisory role.
- Understanding the challenges faced by university students with social communication difficulties.
- Knowledge of risk management in an organisational setting.
- Experience in managing a caseload and record‑keeping.
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Emotional resilience and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent organisational skills.
