Senior Research Associate – MARS: Mathematics for AI in Real‑world Systems (MARS) – School of Mathematical Sciences, Lancaster University.

Location: Bailrigg, Lancaster, UK

Salary: ÂŁ39,906 to ÂŁ48,882 (Full time, indefinite with end date)

We are seeking Senior Research Associates to lead their own research project as part of MARS, funded by a £13 million investment from Research England. MARS focuses on dynamical mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence, addressing real‑world challenges across cyber security, engineering, environment and health.

What We’re Looking For

  • PhD in mathematics or a related discipline with demonstrable experience using mathematical machine learning, AI methods or applied mathematics to solve challenging problems.
  • Ability to propose an innovative, deliverable three‑year research project containing substantial mathematical content, aligned with MARS objectives.
  • Willingness to contribute up to 0.2 FTE to industry projects relevant to expertise.
