The Benedetto lab is looking for an enthusiastic bioinformatician or computer scientist to join a collaborative project studying how the gut-brain axis mediates gut bacterium effects on host thermotolerance in ectotherms. The position is funded by the BBSRC for 33 months. The lab is part of Lancaster University, where we apply physiology approaches to understand animal health through organ systems and gut microbiota, using C. elegans as a model.
The project aims to identify gut-brain-axis mechanisms of thermotolerance in fish, bees, and worms, combining field sampling in Iceland, France, and the UK with lab experiments involving microbial culturomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, metabolic modelling, and microscopy. You will implement data analysis pipelines for omics datasets and contribute to bioimage and proteomics analyses.
You will collaborate with researchers across the UK, France, Germany, and the USA. The project offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to build a research network and develop independence.
Requirements include a postgraduate degree in a relevant field, a publication record, experience with omics pipelines, proficiency in R and Python, and statistical analysis skills. Willingness to undergo training and travel to collaborating institutions is expected. We seek a motivated, organized, and collaborative individual with strong interpersonal skills.
