Comma is an independent literary publisher, specialising in short fiction, and a literature development agency that hosts conferences, creative writing workshops, writers' days, and book events. This internship focuses on digital marketing and aims to drive engagement with Comma's authors, forthcoming books, backlist titles, ongoing series, and events hosted by Comma during the summer and autumn.
Responsibilities
- Carry out market research into existing digital networks—including influencers, bloggers, vloggers/youtubers, and other gatekeepers—to access new audiences for forthcoming books.
- Devise and implement a multifaceted social media campaign for forthcoming books, including scheduled content with an emphasis on video (TikTok and Instagram reels).
- Develop a series of social media campaigns to re‑engage readerships with Comma's ongoing series (e.g., Reading the City, Futures' Past, the BBC National Short Story Award).
- Assist with publicity for forthcoming books by researching press opportunities and contacting journalists.
- Contribute to the Comma Blog, initiate conversations, and invite guest contributions.
- Proof, maintain, and correct omissions in existing website content relating to backlist books.
Qualifications
- Confident use of digital tools, including in‑app video creation and content scheduling.
- Interest in learning additional digital tools and platforms beyond social media (e.g., Substack, podcasts).
- Strong research ability, resourcefulness, and initiative to fulfil given goals.
- Attention to detail.
- Experience and interest in contemporary literature/publishing and marketing.
