Please note: this job is only available to current employees of Lancaster University. The Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Dean. This senior leadership role is open to internal applicants only who must be existing members of academic staff within the Faculty and is normally occupied by colleagues at Senior Lecturer/Grade 9 level or above.

Term of Office

You will be expected to begin in role on 1 August 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post amounts to a 0.5 FTE appointment; this will be fully reflected in workload allocation models. The position is for a period of up to one year, concluding on 31 July 2027. On completion of your term of office the Deputy Dean will revert automatically to your substantive position, unless the appointment is renewed.

Role

You will work closely with the Pro‑VC to provide leadership to the Faculty, with an emphasis on staff experience, EDI, physical resources, health and safety. As part of this role, you will lead the current relocation of the Schools in the Faculty and represent the Faculty within and beyond the University.

Reward and Recognition

Salary supplement

You will receive a non‑superannuable salary supplement equivalent in value to one increment (for a Professor) or two increments (for a Senior Lecturer) on the salary scale. In addition, the role attracts a non‑superannuable allowance of £8,000 per annum.
