The Head of Department (HoD) for Accounting & Finance will be responsible for the academic leadership, management and development of the Department, its staff and its activities. The HoD represents the Department to the Faculty and the University and promotes excellence in teaching, research and engagement across colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the Department.
  • Manage and develop faculty staff, resources and departmental activities.
  • Represent the Department within the Faculty and at the University level.
  • Encourage and develop excellence in teaching, research and engagement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure departmental goals align with institutional priorities.

Rewards and Recognition

In recognition of the role, you will receive a non‑superannuable salary supplement equivalent to one increment on the salary scale for professors or two increments for Senior Lecturers / Senior Teaching Fellows. Subject to successful performance, this allowance may be consolidated into salary on a permanent basis. The role also attracts a Head of Department annual allowance, which is non‑superannuable.

Sabbatical

HoDs are eligible, at the end of their period of office, to be considered for an additional term of sabbatical/AREL leave, to be taken in agreement with the Dean.

Term of Office

The position is for an initial term of four years, with potential renewal for a further term within the University’s HoD and Associate Dean appointment process. On completion of your term(s) of office as HoD you will revert automatically to your substantive position.

Eligibility and Application

Applicants must have a contract of employment at the University extending for at least four years upon appointment to the role of HoD and must be an existing member of academic staff within the Department of Accounting & Finance. Include a short CV and a paragraph under each of the five headings of HoD Desirable Skills, demonstrating relevant experience and preferred professional development. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 5th June 2026. Interviews will be held on Monday 29th June 2026. Between shortlisting and interviewing, a consultation will take place to obtain staff views, and a tailored statement outlining your vision and ambition for the department will be required.
