This is an exciting opportunity to join a joint institute between Lancaster University and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). The campus is located in a remote seaside town, one hour south of Weihai city in Eastern Shandong province, within the ‘Nanhai New District’ along the Southern coastline of the Shandong Peninsula. The campus and surrounding community are gaining a fast‑growing reputation for their clean air, golden beaches, and ecological parkland. The campus is served by an adjacent bus station and a high‑speed railway station that connects Nanhai to other cities, including Beijing. Weihai airport, which offers both domestic and international flights, is less than an hour away.

After a probationary period, you will be employed on an indefinite contract and based on the campus in China for two semesters, each lasting 16 weeks. The remuneration package includes free furnished accommodation, medical coverage, an employer‑contributed pension scheme, and two return flights. The accommodation is conveniently located near the teaching campus with amenities nearby.

You will teach modules within the Design Interaction programme, which is a four‑year undergraduate degree. The programme leads to a dual award from both Lancaster University and Beijing Jiaotong University. The new Design lecturer should focus primarily on delivering high‑quality teaching across core Design Interaction areas such as Critical Reflections, Introduction to Design and Advanced Design Interactions, with the flexibility to cover any related undergraduate modules as needed.

The role places a strong emphasis on effective pedagogy, clear and rigorous assessment design, the integration of digital and information systems perspectives where appropriate, and meaningful student support. You will also contribute to program development, quality assurance, and other academic responsibilities within the Design Interactions programme.

Applicants should hold a PhD in relevant areas. For those who have not undertaken a teaching qualification, there will be an opportunity to work towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Practice. Successful candidates must be available to commence the role by the beginning of September 2026. This role is subject to obtaining suitable visa documentation prior to deployment to China.
