The Deputy Dean Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Dean.

Location: Bailrigg, Lancaster, UK

Salary: Off-Scale (Part‑Time/Fixed Term)

Please note: This job is only available to current employees of Lancaster University. Eligibility: This senior leadership role is open to internal applicants only and requires existing members of academic staff within the Faculty. It is normally occupied by colleagues at Senior Lecturer/Grade 9 level or above.

Term of office: The appointment runs from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027 (one year). The post is 0.5 FTE and recovery to substantive position upon completion unless renewed.

Role: The Deputy Dean works closely with the Pro‑VC to provide Leadership to the Faculty, emphasizing staff experience, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, physical resources, health and safety. Responsibilities include leading the current relocation of the Schools in the Faculty and representing the Faculty within and beyond the University.

Reward and recognition: You will receive a non‑superannuable salary supplement equivalent to one (for a Professor) or two (for a Senior Lecturer) increments on the salary scale, plus a non‑superannuable allowance of £8,000 per annum.

Interviews of shortlisted candidates are expected to take place in person on 20 July 2026, chaired by the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor and including the Pro‑Vice Chancellor of Arts, Humanities, Management and Social Sciences.
