The Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences (BLS) is seeking to appoint a proactive, friendly technician to support undergraduate practical teaching. The role holder will provide hands‑on technical support during term‑time only, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our teaching laboratories.
You Will
- Check and prepare equipment, labware and chemical solutions required in practical sessions.
- Lead by example through consistently adhering to excellent laboratory practices.
- Work collegiately and proactively under instruction to facilitate the smooth running of the laboratories.
- Assist with the preparation of field equipment and sample collection.
- Contribute to other teaching, outreach and student recruitment activities.
About You
- Qualifications or experience equivalent to level 3 in biology or chemistry disciplines or practical experience in a science laboratory.
- The ability to understand and use safe working practices, and experience of working safely and tidily.
- Experience of working successfully in a team to support others, coordinate effort and complete tasks effectively.
- The ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
- The ability to prioritise and organise your work and resources to planned timescales.
- The ability to apply initiative and logic to resolve simple problems, recognising when additional expertise and advice is required.
- A desire to work in an inclusive and diverse environment.
