Robotics Engineer, Lancaster Instruments

Lancaster Instruments designs and builds precision machines and robotics, from laboratory automation for IVF clinics and test equipment for the nuclear industry to bespoke automation for individual clients. We're a small team with our own workshop and in-house CNC machining, which means we get from CAD to working hardware quickly.

We have a growing pipeline of custom robotics projects and are looking for engineers to help design, build and deliver them.

What you'll do

You'll be part of a small team where everyone is hands-on and works closely together. You'll lead in the areas you know best and learn the rest alongside colleagues.

  • Help design and build robotic and automated machines, from concept prototypes through to commissioning
  • Take the lead in your own discipline, whether mechanical, electrical or software, and pitch in on the others with support from the team
  • Get hands-on building, testing and refining hardware
  • Work with the team and our customers on requirements and delivery

Who we're looking for

We care more about evidence that you've built things that work than about your job title or degree. You might be a mechanical, electronics, mechatronics, controls or software engineer. Your experience might come from industry, a research lab, a startup, a student team or serious personal projects.

Experience in any of the following is useful:

  • Mechanical design and CAD
  • Motion control, motors, actuators and sensors
  • Electronics, PCB design and control panel wiring
  • Embedded firmware, Python, C
  • CNC machining, 3D printing and fabrication

This is a full-time, on-site role at our factory in Lancaster. You'll need the right to work in the UK for at least the next 12 months without sponsorship.
