The Cardiac Catheter Suite at Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust has a part-time vacancy for an enthusiastic and flexible person looking for a challenge in a post that is both interesting and varied. We are looking for a person with excellent clerical skills and is a team player with a flexible approach to working. A good telephone manner is essential. You should be able to demonstrate good keyboard skills and have the ability to communicate effectively on any level. You must also be able to demonstrate flexibility and use your own initiative to carry out duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation, thus enabling the team to utilise their time in an efficient and effective manner.
Main duties of the job:
- You will provide clerical support i.e. typing procedure reports and letters, spreadsheets, waiting time reports in addition to filing, answering telephone calls and dealing with enquiries for all patients attending the Cardiac Catheter Suite.
- The post holder’s main duties will include planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the work of the Unit.
- You will support the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the trust.
- You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians, managers and others within the Respiratory and Sleep team and Trust wide service users.
- Be the point of contact for all non-routine enquiries facilitating communication and information flows, initiating and responding to correspondence and resolving enquiries.
- Investigate and respond to complaints/incident forms as required, taking action where necessary and reporting to line manager.
- Undertake secretarial duties including diary management, collation of papers for consultations, typing of clinic letters or other correspondence produced by consultants, junior medical staff, Physiologists and any other staff.
- Prepare presentation material including PowerPoint.
- Utilisation of local or Trust case note tracking system.
- Filing of reports and results.
- Work in conjunction with line manager in relation to managing OP slot utilisation, minimising DNA’s and waiting lists.
- Management of results and information flow.
- Planning and organisation of the day-to-day needs of the clinical team.
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff within areas of responsibility and the organisation of induction and orientation/training programmes.
- Assist in the onboarding of new team members.
- Responsibility for information resources.
Person specification:
Qualifications and Attainments
Essential criteria:
- GCSE at grade C or above in Mathematics.
- Key Skills at level 2 in Numeracy (or equivalent).
- GCSE at grade C or above in English Language, or Key Skills at level 2 in Literacy (or equivalent).
- Typing or word processing qualification at RSA II (or equivalent).
- Medical Terminology Qualification.
- NVQ at level 2 in Business Administration (or equivalent).
Desirable criteria:
- RSA III or equivalent typing qualification.
- IT qualification (ITQ at level 2 or equivalent).
Experience
Essential criteria:
- Demonstrable experience of clerical work involving computerised systems.
- Demonstrable knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrable experience of using audio transcription systems.
Desirable criteria:
- Previous Secretarial experience in Cardiology.
- Experience of working within a healthcare environment.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
