This is an extremely exciting opportunity to work in a Senior Nurse Leadership Role on Brindle Ward at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital.

Main duties of the job:

• As the ward manager, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the ward ensuring patient safety and staff well-being are paramount.
• It is essential to have strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
• You will ensure that the nursing team and care support team within their ward or department are adequately resourced and organised.
• You will lead and develop the nursing team and the support teams by being a visible and strong role model providing leadership and direction to the team.
• Capitalising on research and development opportunities, providing clinical supervision and well-being advice for staff and students in order to support them in reaching their full potential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

We are keen to support the right person in their leadership progression who would like the opportunity as a Band 7 Ward Manager and who has experience in acute hospital settings.

• Ensure the productive operation of the ward through the monitoring and maintenance of quality standards that create a safe, clean and organised environment.
• Using processes designed to increase the time nurses spend in therapeutic contact with patients.
• The successful candidate will work closely with the matron and be supported by the Divisional senior nursing and management team.

Person specification:

Qualifications & Education:

• Essential criteria:
• Appropriate NMC Registration
• Mentorship qualification
• Post Registration Qualifications relevant to the role
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing
• Successful completion of/will to work towards a leadership and development programme (equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development programme).

• Desirable criteria:
• Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience:

• Essential criteria:
• Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
• Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
• Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality e.g. surgery
• Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
• Knowledge of ethical issues

• Desirable criteria:
• Experience of budgetary management
• Knowledge of the PDPR Process
• Evidence of working at Band 7
• Experience of managing a clinical area
