The Anticoagulation Service is situated within Pathology at Chorley Hospital. We work across sites at Royal Preston Hospital and within the community at outreach clinics.
You will be guided in your role by a fantastic, friendly team of Specialist Anticoagulant Nurses, Specialist Biomedical Scientists, and Administrators. Our aim is to find a conscientious and well-organised individual to support the service. Within this role, you will have direct patient contact when performing capillary sampling at busy anticoagulant clinics. Excellent communication skills, a positive professional manner, and a drive to provide the best possible care for patients are essential qualities.
Main duties of the job:
- Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills to provide a positive experience for our patients.
- Obtain capillary blood samples via finger prick in busy anticoagulant clinics.
- Provide a full range of administrative duties for the service.
- Work within both clinical and office-based environments across Chorley Hospital, Preston Hospital, and our community-based clinics.
- Perform key duties such as patient INR testing, processing referrals, data inputting, managing phone calls, maintaining accurate patient records, and liaising with other healthcare professionals.
You must be flexible when working between office-based and clinical environments, able to exercise initiative, and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism. You will need to be a self-motivated individual with proven clinical and administration skills, and be able to utilise excellent communication skills to provide the required advice and support to patients. This role requires strict adherence to Trust protocols, being aware of the need for confidentiality and compliance with Information Governance at all times.

Duties to include but not be limited to:
- Performing capillary sampling via finger prick at anticoagulant clinics.
- Data inputting for outpatient anticoagulant clinics in real time.
- Managing follow-up appointments for anticoagulant patients.
- Processing patient referrals and arranging patient appointments.
- Managing patient records, ensuring details are kept up to date and provide an accurate documentation trail.
- Managing emails and letters including DNA letters.
- Working alongside Administrators to fulfil administrative duties.
- Responding to external and internal telephone queries from staff, patients and others and referring to appropriate person.
- Greeting patients and directing clinic flow.
- Communicating with a range of staff, patients, and visitors to the Trust, utilising a variety of communication methods.
Person specification:
Qualifications:
- Essential criteria: Educated to GCSE level with at least 3 GCSEs at Grade C and above. Must include Maths and English.
- Desirable criteria: ECDL or equivalent, NVQ Admin and Clerical or Clinical Support, Knowledge of Anticoagulants.
Knowledge:
- Essential criteria: Experience of working with patients within a clinical environment, previous experience of working within a multidisciplinary team, previous experience of Administrative/Clerical work, understanding of Information Governance, Data Quality, Patient Confidentiality and its requirements.
- Desirable criteria: Previous experience of working in the NHS or a health care or related setting, use of FLEX or other NHS systems to manage patient appointments, understanding of ANTT.
