Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Registered Adult Nurse with leadership experience to join the medicines management team at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT). The post focuses on prioritising patient safety and medicines optimisation across the Trust through staff training, policy development and incident management. The post holder will work closely with teams and wards to ensure staff feel confident and competent in managing medicines. The role involves leading the medicines management agenda with delegated authority from the Medicines Safety Officer and Chief Pharmacist to support practice across all professional groups involved in the medication process.

Responsibilities

  • Support medicines optimisation across the Trust through staff training, policy development and incident management.
  • Work with teams and wards to ensure staff feel confident and competent in their ability to manage medicines.
  • Ensure systems and processes provide an appropriate framework for safe administration of medicines by the relevant professional groups.
  • Provide assurance regarding the competency of staff involved in the medication process.
  • Operate with delegated authority from the Medicines Safety Officer and Chief Pharmacist to manage the medicines management agenda.
  • Contribute to delivering safe, effective and appropriate prescribing and administration of medicines to optimise patient care outcomes.

Context and Standards

The organisation supports clear processes for obtaining and prescribing medications, with staff including prescribers confident and competent when handling medicines. The role aligns with Care Quality Commission (CQC) Outcome 9 and NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) levels 1–3 in Medicines Management.
